How Star Wars Relates to You

I’ve seen every single star wars movie. So, of course, I went to see the Rise of Skywalker the week the movie came out in theaters. Don’t worry I won’t give you any spoilers.

I did want to write down the spiritual principles you can pull from the story of Rey, the heroine of this Star Wars chapter.

The first theme I found so comforting is how many times the characters learned that when facing evil it is easier to stand up when they have their friends around.

You can’t defeat evil without a community.

Isn’t that so true in our walk with Jesus?

I loved the scene when Rey decides to take on the enemy by herself. Her friends, Poe and Finn, wouldn’t let her.

At one point Poe is asking Lando, an older and wiser commander for advice.

Poe Dameron: How did you do it? Defeat an empire with almost nothing?

Lando Calrissian: We had each other. That’s how we won.

What kind of evil has the enemy been throwing at you lately? For John and I, we’ve been navigating what ministry looks like for us. We’ve had to have lots of conversations about how to stay healthy, positive, and how to take criticism when it comes our way. I am soooo thankful for the friends we have who are quick to come around us when we need prayer and encouragement.

God designed us to live in community. That’s how we will finish well. Live in community. Don’t go into isolation. I don’t care what you’ve done or where you’ve come from, there is a place at God’s table for you.

I really do believe the enemy desires us to think we are alone. That no one else is out there following Jesus.

Poe Dameron: My friends, I’m sorry, I thought we had a shot. There’s just too many of them.

Lando Calrissian: But there are more of us, Poe. There are more of us.

You are not alone. Reach out and pray for a community. Get to a Bible preaching church. You can do it!

Ephesians chapter 4 and 5 are great chapters to read. Paul is giving instructions on how we should live together in community. He gives instructions to families and what unity in the church looks like. My favorite verse from these passages is Ephesians 5:8 – “Walk as children of light”. That’s what God has called us to. Wow, what a beautiful picture and right along with our Star Wars theme. If we are to be children of light we need to walk with others who are from the same family. We need to be living in community.

Thanks for stopping by! Let me know what you think. Comment below. Oh and if you’ve watched the Star Wars movie, what did you think?
